Cotey Pope (they/them) is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist, actor, photographer, filmmaker, and musician.
Their work has been exhibited at: Toronto International Film festival, Toronto Biennial of Art, XPACE, Gallery 1313, CBC arts, C Magazine, Contact Photography Festival, DOORED, LA Contemporary Archive, and more.
They have also been a frequent collaborator to comedy art duo:
Life of a Craphead in the DIY film and performance art scene.
Growing up in the Niagara region with roots in community theatre and music, they moved to Toronto to study theatre. They re-directed to receive their degree in Sculpture & Integrated Media from OCADU gaining a more multi-disciplinary approach to filmmaking, performance, sculpture, painting and photo.
Their art practice investigates ideas of institutional critique, comedy, memory and questioning systems of power while exploring class, disorder, and queer identity.
Cotey identifies as non-binary, trans and queer and is an advocate in promoting works by LGBTQ2S+ artists and communities.
They have worked professionally in film and television since 2016 in acting, art direction, assistant directing, scenic, and camera.
Their photography practice documents other local artists and musicians, and has been used on covers and music videos for bands: Kiwi Junior, Le Ren, Daniel Romano, Cayley Thomas, Heaven for Real ++++
