Cotey Pope (they/them) is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist, actor, photographer, and musician.
Their work has been exhibited at:
Toronto International Film festival, Toronto Biennial of Art, XPACE, Gallery 1313, CBC arts, C Magazine, Contact Photography Festival, DOORED,
LA Contemporary Archive, and more. They have also been a frequent collaborator with comedy art duo
Life of a Craphead in the alternative comedy performance art scene.
Pope grew up in the Niagara region with roots in community theatre and music. Moving to Toronto to study theatre they went on to receive their degree in Sculpture and Integrated Media from OCAD gaining a more multi-disciplinary approach to making work in performance, film, sculpture and painting.
Their art practice investigates ideas of institutional critique, comedy, memory and questioning systems of power while exploring class, disorder, and queer identity.
Cotey's photography practice includes documenting local artists, filmmakers, musicians, and fashion shows. Their photo work has been used on covers and videos for bands such as : Kiwi Junior, Le Ren, Daniel Romano, Cayley Thomas, and Heaven for Real.
Cotey identifies as non-binary, trans and pansexual and is an advocate in promoting works by LGBTQ2S+ artists and communities.
They have also worked professionally in film and television since 2016 in set design, assistant directing, scenic, and camera department on various shows including: Hell of a Summer, Designated Survivor, The Boys, ShadowHunters , MayDay Air Crash Investigations and more.
